Italy is steeped in history and myth, with the Roman Empire having ruled a large part of the world for hundreds of years, its effect on the progression of western society cannot be overstated. This is keenly felt throughout the continent, from its wonderful architectural remnants, to the food and wine, clothes worn, cars driven and the art that is loved, not to mention many linguistic roots.
All this from a country that is famed as one of the most beautiful and charismatic on the planet. Italy is made up of 20 regions, five of which are autonomous; Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Aosta Valley, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, Sicily and Sardinia. Italy covers a land area of 294,020 sq km and has a population of circa 62 million in 2011.

In the north there is Valle d' Aosta where we find Italy's mountainous region. Here there are some of the Alps most awesome peaks; the Gran Paradiso, the Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn and Monte Bianco which is surrounded by an incredible national park where you can see a range of wildlife from ibex and chamois to eagle's. Further across to Trentino and Alto Adige the alpine circle continues, with layers of mountains and valleys. This is rugged Italy on an epic scale and is the place for those looking for both wild nature and grand history. There are many ancient castles that visitors can visit and book as vacation rentals, to enjoy a taste of old world hospitality.

For those looking for world class skiing, Italy offers skiing on a par with any other European or North American country and you will find amazing slopes all over the north east which is known for the Dolomites, a spectacular set of peaks that run through the area. You can find many holiday apartments and hotels here that offer luxury accommodation to complement an Italian ski vacation.

Another northern region of note is Veneto where the famous mythical city of Venice can be found, which is in itself a world heritage site. Otherwise known as "The Floating City" and "The City Of Masks". Luigi Barzini, writing in The New York Times, described it as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man" The city is connected via 117 tiny islands that sit in the Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic sea. A network of waterways join together the most beautiful collection of buildings built in one place. This is a must for anyone visiting Italy.

In the middle of the country there is the region of Tuscany, flanked by Umbria and Marche. All loved for their stunning fertile land, rolling hills and valleys. This part of Italy has been made famous by artists the world over and is regarded as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. Some of the greats of history such as Puccini, Galileo, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli and Dante derive from Tuscany. With world famous wines and a vast array of world heritage sites and hundreds of nature reserves throughout this part of the country, it is no surprise to learn that Tuscany alone draws more than 10 million visitors every year, making it one of the most visited places in the world.

Slightly further down the country in the region of Lazio, we find Rome, Italy's capital. A city that spans over two and a half thousand years and gave rise to an Empire that ran for seven hundred years. Rome is a magical city that breathes history from every pore. No other city even comes a close second to this grand metropolis. A living monument, where the past meets the present, with a reverence that only Rome knows. Here fashionista's in sharp dressed clothes, street performers, wizened priests and the roar of Vesper bikes play out onto a backdrop of ancient wonder.

Moving on and we find the southern section of the continental Peninsular and two large islands, namely, Sardinia and Sicily. To the south we can also find a large number of much smaller islands. This part of Italy is the place to come for those looking to escape the large crowds of the central and northern parts, as it makes up for just under half of the total land mass but with a fraction of the population. The south boasts amazing beaches but attracts less tourists than some of its European neighbors simply because Rome, Florence and Venice are usually the first stop for anyone traveling to Italy. As such this can make southern Italy a great choice if your looking for golden coastlines without the crowds that you could expect in Spain or Portugal.

As you might expect property prices vary considerably dependent upon where in the country you choose to buy. Apartments in Rome, Venice and the center of Florence can run into the millions. However, for the most part, Italy is a great country to find classic property at very competitive prices and throughout most of Italy it is possible to find rural properties for restoration from as little as €15,000. Anyone interested in taking on a restoration project, should keep in mind that the true cost of bringing your dream home to life will be considerably more once you have factored in necessary building materials and labor.

One bed houses in the central regions of Abruzzo and Umbria can be found for as little as €30,000. With two bed costal apartments going from €35,000 upwards. In fact, Italy is one of the best countries in Europe to find property at great prices and being that it is so well loved for history, culture, cuisine and natural beauty, investments here offer very good turn around as holiday rentals. A truly impressive country that is perfect for the aesthetically pleased.

A few pointers for buying property in Italy:

• Find a respected estate agent and geometra, or technical expert to help you deal with the legal workings and 'famous' Italian bureaucracy. Once this is in place, the buying procedure is quite straight forward but a little slow, so be sure to have patience throughout.

• If you are looking for an Italian mortgage you must open an Italian bank account. Once this is done you can borrow up to 80% of the purchase price, providing the loan does not run for more than 35 years.

• Be sure that the property is really what you want before you sign a "Compromesso" since this is a legally binding document.

• Ensure get-out clauses are written into the preliminary contract for anything that has not been checked completely.

• Make sure that your property is properly surveyed.

• Before you buy you must obtain a deed of sale via the Italian consulate in your home country.

• Signing of the deed (rogito) should be observed by the seller, the property agent, the notary and the mortgage lender.

Tony Osust, director: Holprop.com

Search through our large international portfolio of properties for sale and rent. It also home to a large collection of Renaissance paintings, but is better know for the sculptures of Michelangelo including the Palerstria Pieta.

The Baptistery

The Baptistery is so old its date is not really known, but it is understood to be one of the oldest monuments in Florence. The exterior façade houses three arches that are adorned with sculptures and marble decorations. The doors are pieces of art in and of themselves. They are gilded in bronze and date back to the 14th and 15th century. Panels from the original dome have been removed and restored and are now housed at the Museum of the Opera del Duomo.

Gallery of Modern Art

Florence is so well known for its Renaissance era works that many people overlook the fact that the Gallery of Modern Art houses 18th, 19th and 20th century works that are modern by comparison in a city so old. The museum is located on the second floor of the Pitti Place. Here you find familiar works by Cezanne, Gauguin, and Grassi and others who adopted the style and techniques of French artists. Equestrians will particularly enjoy the works of sculptor Marino Marini.

The Horne Museum

Named after the English art collector Herbert P. Horne, this museum blends art with a history of life during the Italian Renaissance. The furnishings and accessories along with the architecture itself are a reflection of this rich era. Artwork ranges from the 14th to 17th centuries and includes pieces from Cafaggiolo, Urbino, and Orvieto.

The Silver Museum

This museum houses an interesting collection of objects from the various dynasties ranging from the Medici through the Lorraine. There is great diversity in the pieces of jewellery, gems, semi-precious tones and various art objects. These are all from eras in time when a rich life and extravagance were the norm. One of the most valuable pieces housed here is a collection of vases by Lorenzo the Magnificent.

This small sprinkling of museums only touches the surface of possible historical sites in Florence. Florence is home to more than 50 museums, galleries, or architectural wonders that make this city a place one could visit for weeks and still not take it all in.
Article Source: http://www.articlemarketing.org

Find articles on minor concussion and bone density screening at the Knowledge Bin site.

Learn Italian In Italy

There are lots of ways to learn a language, but nothing can beat actually visiting and studying in the country where the language is spoken. Daily immersion in the language and culture is the key to gaining proficiency in a language. So where better to learn the Italian language than in Italy! Italy is a beautiful and diverse country with friendly people, fantastic food and an astonishingly rich cultural heritage.

For anyone who hasn't realised, Italy is a country rich in history, beauty, romance and style. It's also a country where good taste in fashion and food abound. Italians take an immense, and justifiable, pride in their national assets, and often refer to their country as the 'bel paese' or 'beautiful country'. Italy is among the oldest and most fascinating European countries, with art and architecture are second to none. Whether you choose to explore Italy by foot, by gondola, or by Vespa, the journey is breathtaking! To appreciate 'la dolce vita' fully, knowledge of the Italian language is essential, and there is no better place to learn than right in the midst of Italian life.

Italian language schools are located throughout Italy, from world-famous Venice and Milan in northern Italy to historic Taormina and Otranto in the south. Choice of location is one of the most important factors in deciding which language school to attend. Without a doubt, time spent outside the language classroom is at least as important as time spent in class. In larger cities, language programs typically emphasise amenities and activities but, depending on the size of the program, can neglect individual student attention. While there may be no shortage of cultural activities and museum visits, intimate cultural experiences are more likely to occur in smaller towns and villages. It is also much easier to fall back on speaking English in large cities, which of course defeats your original purpose entirely!

Throughout Italy, English is less spoken in smaller towns and villages than in cities. In such locations, it is almost impossible not to speak the language you’re there to study. Generally, people in the more rural areas of Italy will be quite honored that you’ve chosen to learn Italian in their home town and will be more welcoming, making it easier to establish lasting friendships and feel right at home.

The type of Italian language program you choose will of course be determined partly by your specific needs. There are many different types of program offered by language schools in Italy, including general Italian, Italian for business, Italian for academic studies, and Italian for art courses, music, design and culinary arts.

Whichever program you choose, there are several features to look for which are shared by all good programs: flexible, communicative instruction methodologies, a friendly atmosphere, personal attention, enthusiastic and qualified teachers, small groups. Depending on your requirements, the program should also provide a language qualification recognised by national and international colleges and universities.

In summary, to get the most out of an Italian language program in Italy, look for schools with small groups, qualified native-speaking teachers and programs providing plenty of individual attention. Cultural programs including excursions and activities are important, but they should not substitute for real language learning which occurs best in smaller groups and more intimate contexts. Whatever happens during your time in Italy, the most important thing is that you thoroughly enjoy the language learning experience! You will learn much better if you are happy with your program and enjoying yourself!
Article Source: http://www.articlemarketing.org

law essays

Basilicata: a small and precious pearl in the south of Italy

Towns are rich of history, monuments, art and archeology, for example.. The region covers 9,992 km² and in 2001 had a population of about 600,000 inhabitants. The regional capital is Potenza. The region is divided into two provinces: Potenza and Matera.

Potenza and its province is immersed between a flat zone and fascinating muontains thare are also defined the "Dolomites lucane". For this there is not a best period to visit these zones: the winter and abundant snowfalls that in the last years covered the adjacent mountains give back picturesque the landscapes while in summer the magnificent colors that put on the hills and the meadows do that also this season is perfect period to be able to stay.
The province has splendid monuments to visit, between which the historical center of Potenza characterized from the old town and Via Pretoria called also " lounge" of Potenza, as there are numerous shops, pastry shops and coffee that are attractions for meetings and for strolled and finally the castle of Lagopèsole to rectangular plant with walls to bugnato

Matera is a unique and charming town, rises laid to a fissure in which were dug in the deep rock caves that had been ancient residences. These are called Sassi of Matera and have inspiring poets and writers among which Carlo Levi in his romance Christ has stopped to Eboli and were evocative scenery for the film "The Passion" of Mel Gibson. In the course of centuries, until to arrive to XIX century, Matera was remodelled from numerous rich proprietors that outlined the line of boundary between the high and low part of the town. A visit deserve the Castle Tramontano, raised in XV century and ever finished, the Cathedral of XIII century, of rchitecture romanico-pugliese more time remaked, the Church of San Francesco, of XIII century and the Nationa Museum Domenico Ridola that preserve reports from the age of the bronze to the roman period. To little kilometers from the town deserve a visit the Park of the rocky churches, characterized from natural caves that testify the presence of Greek and Latin community. The cusine has a lot in common with the culinary traditions pugliesi; in fact the typical dishes are the broad bean and beets and lamb to the mushrooms, while as regards the sweets to taste are the "cicirata", small marbles fried and covered of honey and the cakes of cheese.

About the Author

Lara Malerba is Content Manager for ZeroDelta S.r.l., an italian web agency and content provider. Take A Vacation!

Today's poor economy, career insecurity, mortgage repayments, debt and energy prices are some of the leading causes of stress affecting people around the world today.

Holidays are very important to our physical and mental well being. Whether the vacation is a weekend getaway or a full two-week vacation from everything stressful, make the most of it by doing nothing. Pay your bills before leaving home so you don't have to worry about calling or going online to pay them while trying to relax. That's the purpose of a holiday - to get away from it all. On the beach or an amusement park ride is not a good place for a cell phone or blackberry, leave those at home.

Sunshine

Sunshine can improve one's mood, ward off depression, aid in sleep and even improve your sex life. Not only does the sun provide the skin with a healthy glow, it provides nutrients that essentially have a positive effect on many areas of life. Moderate sun exposure can raise vitamin D levels, reduces stress and helps our bodies recover from jet lag more quickly.

Fresh Air

Many people spend far more time indoors than outdoors. Sometimes this is not by choice. Demanding work or class schedules are leading reasons people spend most of their time indoors. Fresh air helps cleans our lungs better than any air purifier system available on the market today. Having the ability to breathe more easily increases the amount of oxygen provided to our cells. Increased oxygen means increased energy to do the things we need or want to do.

Play Time

Most adults do not take the time to play and enjoy themselves. Vacations provide a great opportunity to just let go and enjoy your time, whether on the beach or a theme park tour. Adults often ask how children have so much energy. Often the answer is simple - they take the time to play and enjoy life unlike their adult counterparts. The next time you take time for a vacation, make time to play and enjoy it.

Creativity

Don't stick to a normal schedule when you're on vacation! It is your vacation, your time off. Go to bed late and sleep late, enjoy breakfast in the afternoon or dinner at midnight. Be creative when planning one day to the next. Plan activities you enjoy. Don't be worried about what others may think of your creative efforts, just enjoy your vacation.

Freedom

Vacations provide many forms of freedom - freedom from the 9 to 5 daily grind, the commute, the office and best of all freedom from your alarm clock. Vacation time means no stressful schedule to maintain. Plan your vacation but do not make daily plans that take you out of your realm of relaxation. Vacation plans should include things you enjoy doing, not things you feel you need to do.

Relaxation

Brooks Gump, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology at Oswego said, 'We concluded that skipping vacations could actually be dangerous to your health. Vacations have a protective effect because they help you reduce your load of stress, or at least allow you to take a break from the everyday stressors of the workplace.'

Researchers and doctors have assessed stress related illnesses for years and the majority of them have come to the same conclusions - vacations are an essential part of maintaining good mental health as well as good physical health.

Vacation Locations Around the World

The British enjoy spending their vacation time in various locations in Spain and Europe. The Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Spain, Hungary and Italy are some of the more popular vacation destinations. Low-cost airlines throughout Europe allow the opportunity for Europeans to plan shorter, more frequent vacations and weekend getaways, flights to Malta have come down in price in recent years for example.

Florida, the Caribbean and other coastal areas are some of North America's most popular vacation destinations. Theme parks around the United States are great destinations for overnight or weekend getaways. Many adventurous vacations are also available throughout the United States and Canada throughout the year.

--
Vacation guides for European locations are available with Tribune, including one for Malta with low cost holiday Malta options at yourmalta.com

They also have some popular travel sites for sale for those thinking of a new enterprise.

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://italy-travel-guide.blogspot.com/2011/04/vacation-vacation-vacation.html' title='Stressed Out? The Alps occupy the part of Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and the former Yugoslavia. The choice of a particular country can depend on the language spoken there, the attractions (except mountains) you can see there and the price.

Mountains are a kind of addiction – once having tasted, you will ask for more and more again. Here you can receive an enormous level of adrenaline and try all the extreme sports available – alpine skiing, luge, bobsleigh, snowboard and other winter sports.

So, let’s compare the Alps in the different countries.

Austrian Alps is Innsbruck, Kitzbuhel, Zell am See and St Anton. The most developed area is Lech in Tirol, called “the cradle of the mountain sport”. High above Lech lies Oberlech – real alpine paradise with great routes, discos, bars and shops. Innsbruck, the capital of Tirol is situated 575 meters above the sea level, but the mountains surrounding it are some 2000 meters higher. It guarantees an outstanding view from any point of the city. Kitzbuhel is one of the most beautiful and prestigious resorts. The resort is good for snowboard fans – special complex Snowboard Paradise is located on the slope.

Zell am See boasts the wide range of the ski routs of various difficulty. It is one of the most popular resorts in Austria, due to its democracy and variety of attractions. One of the oldest resort - St Anton has a century history and is considered to be one of the most important points in Alps.

German Alps begins on the Southern part f Bavaria. It occupies less significant part than in Austria but there are some attractive resorts too. The highest-lying village in Alps Oberstdorf has become one of the popular ski resorts. Oberstdorf is close to the Austrian Tirol. It is not only a resort; it is a popular place for holding up winter sports championships too. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is among the best Alpine resorts and is also a popular place for winter sports competitions. Here I should mention, that the Germans are the best fans in winter sports ever. The stages of the different winter sports World Cups in Germany attract much more visitors then in any other country. Biathlon, ski jumping and cross-country skiing are extremely popular there.

Though it may sound strange, Italy can be called “the most Alpine country of the world”. Italian Alps stretches for more than a thousand kilometers and the highest Alpine peak – Montblanc is located in Italy. Italian popular resorts Madonna di Campiglio, Val di Fiemme and Cortina d'Ampezzo are the world leading alpine skiing centers.

France is famous for its winter resorts too. They are mostly known for the high level of service, the most fashionable hotels and, of course, mountains. There are no other places on the earth like Courchevel. It has become a symbol of the luxury and prestige. It’s the place to show off. Those, who just want to ski, should better choose some other resort. Chamonix is more democratic, but still very cozy and renowned.

Switzerland is the last in our list of Alpine countries. Its resorts are considered to be rather expensive, but there are some affordable places too. The most prestigious resorts are Zermatt, Saint Moritz, and Davos. They are an ideal choice for the most demanding travelers with its chic boutiques, the best hotels and the magnificent mountain routes. Davos is also the home for the annual economic summit, visited by the world-leaders. The cheaper resorts are Grindelwald and Gstaad.

As you can see the choice of resorts in Alps is really enormous, but why to choose? You can visit all of them and then decide which one you prefer.

--
If you like to know about how to book hotel in any country of the world, please visit www.allrez.com

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Taking It To The Extreme With Mount Everest

The best known mountain of all, Mount Everest is an excellent modern extreme vacation destination. There are few places anywhere else on earth that boast such a meeting place of enticing offerings, and millions of visitors flock to Florence each year to enjoy the attractions. Staying in hotels, hostels, and holiday villas across the city, these patrons make their way through all of Florence's restaurants, museums, and churches.

Florence is referred to as "the cradle of the Renaissance", and the "Athens of the Middle Ages", and you'll know why the moment you step off the plane. The entire city is jam-packed with monuments, art and architecture that symbolize the best of that important period in European history.

The list of sights to see during your visit is long. The centerpiece of the city shouldn't be missed, however, so make sure to plan ample time for touring the Duomo, built by Filippo Brunelleschi. After that necessary stop, take the time to check out the various museums, including the Uffizi, the Bargello, and the Palazzo Pitti. All are world-class exhibitions of Renaissance Art that display priceless pieces from the period.

The summer months are a wonderful time to visit Florence, but be prepared for temperatures to soar. You'll also have to deal with sky-high humidity. The best way to combat these conditions is with the rental of a vacation villa with a pool in Florence. After a long morning of touring through museums (which thankfully have air-conditioning), you can retire to your villa to relax away the rest of the day by the pool, letting the cold water soak the pain in your feet away.

As an alternative, you could also consider renting a place outside of the city. It's much cooler once you leave the city limits, so a holiday villa in the Florence hills could be the perfect answer to your problems. If you do go this route, you'll want to rent a car for private transportation, as buses are somewhat limited to the area. Of course, this is an attractive option anyway, because the wine of Chianti beckons tourists to leave the city for wonderful tours through the countryside.

Often, renting a villa can prove to be more economical than staying in a hotel, especially when traveling with a larger group such as your entire family. You'll have more space, comfort, and will likely enjoy a more authentic experience (with real Italian neighbors) than you would if you had stayed in a charmless international chain hotel. Renting a villa is easy and painless, and can often be done online without a problem.

Florence is one of the most beloved cities in all of Europe (and indeed the world), and for good reason. With all of the art, culture, food and wine you can handle, you're guaranteed a fabulous trip. After all that enjoyment, head back to your private Florence villa to spend the rest of the day and evening with the people you love the most.

Truly the best way to spend a vacation.

--
Teresa Cambi collaborates with many online tourist guides, writing articles about the most popular travel destination in Italy. The countryside is unspoiled and dotted with medieval churches. Its fairly gentle terrain is composed of hills, valleys, and small mountains. Umbria is the only region of Italy with neither a seacoast nor a foreign border. But it has lakes, rivers, and even a waterfall. It is known as the green valley of Italy. In spite of this name, until a few decades ago Umbria kept losing population to the more highly industrial north. Its total population is about 830 thousand.

Umbria was settled by the Umbri, perhaps the first inhabitants of Italy. They were forced into the mountains by the Etruscans, who were conquered by the Romans and then the Lombards. The poet Dante considered it the most violent part of Italy.

Umbria is particularly known for pork, dried pasta, and both black and white truffles. It also produces specialty breads and a wide variety of vegetables and meats. Fish and eels from the Tiber River and Lake Trasimeno abound. Cheeses include Pecorino Toscano, reviewed below.

Umbria’s capital is Perugia, a beautiful medieval city with a population of 150 thousand. Among other things Perugia is known for chocolates and Italian as a second language classes. Another famous Umbrian city is Assisi, the home of St. Francis of Assisi.

Umbria devotes about 41 thousand acres to grapevines, it ranks 15th among the 20 Italian regions. Its total annual wine production is about 19.5 million gallons, giving it a 16th place. About 58% of the wine production is white, leaving 42% for red. The region produces 11 DOC wines. DOC stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, which may be translated as Denomination of Controlled Origin, presumably a high-quality wine, and 2 DOCG red wines, Montefalco Sagrantino and Torgiano Rosso. The G in DOCG stands for Garantita, but there is in fact no guarantee that such wines are truly superior.

About 30% of Umbrian wine carries the DOC or DOCG designation. Umbria is home to about thirty major and secondary grape varieties, about two thirds white.

Widely grown international white grape varieties include Chardonnay and Trebbiano. The best known strictly Italian white variety is Grechetto, used in the its flagship Orvieto DOC wines.

Widely grown international red grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, and Merlot. The best known Italian red variety is Sangiovese, now grown elsewhere such as in California.

Before we review the Umbrian wine and cheese that we were lucky enough to purchase at a local wine store and a local Italian food store, here are a few suggestions of what to eat with indigenous wines when touring this beautiful region.

Start with Zuppa di Lenticchie di Castelluccio, Castelluccio Lentil Soup, which with local bread can be a meal in itself.

Later try Porchetta alla Perugina, Roasted Suckling Pig with Wild Fennel, Rosemary, and Garlic.

For dessert indulge yourself with Serpentone delle Monache di Perugia, Nut and Fruit “Snake” of the Capucin Nuns.

OUR WINE REVIEW POLICY While we have communicated with well over a thousand Italian wine producers and merchants to help prepare these articles, our policy is clear. All wines that we taste and review are purchased at the full retail price.

Wine Reviewed

Lungaraotti Pinot Grigio 2004 12% about $12

I haven’t always been happy with Italian Pinot Grigio, or for that matter with non-Italian Pinot Gris. These wines often are weak. However, I thought that this particular Pinot Grigio was a fine wine for its price when it accompanied the right food. The sales literature suggested that this light-bodied, vivid, and balanced wine would be a great match for antipasti. My mistake was pairing it with non-imported antipasti, really more of a mediocre relish, which overpowered the wine. I later tried this wine with cold barbecued chicken in a moderately spicy Thai sauce and was quite pleased. Its citrus flavors really shone. I could taste this wine’s subtle complexity.

Pecorino Toscano is a sheep’s milk cheese that has been made in Tuscany and neighboring Umbria for thousands of years. Soft Pecorino Toscano is white with a tinge of yellow, while semi-hard Pecorino Toscano is pale yellow. It is moderately strong smelling and has a complex nutty flavor. I thought that it blended very nicely into the wine.

--

About the Author
Levi Reiss has authored or co-authored ten books on computers and the Internet, but to be honest, he would rather just drink fine Italian or other wine, accompanied by the right foods. He teaches classes in computers at an Ontario French-language community college. His wine website is www.theworldwidewine.com . You could easily spend days on end just sightseeing courtesy of a gondola. This is the only city in the world built entirely on water. As you look around, you’ll quickly notice an abundance of gondolas, but no cars! Filled with nightlife, Venice is famous for its masquerade parties. Take time to attend local festivals including the Venice Film Festival and the ever-popular Carnival Masquerade Ball. While you’re there, be sure to visit St. Mark's Square, the hub of the city.

St. Mark's Square

Early in the morning, St. Mark's Square is completely empty with the exception of those who clean this majestic wonder. Even then, in the quiet of the dawn, it is an awe-inspiring place to visit. An open-air square set before ancient domed architecture topped with numerous spires, St. Mark's Square is positioned on the Grand Canal by a gondola pier ("molo"). Its majestic Campanile (watchtower) takes center stage with a height of 314 feet. With the quiet crashing of the waves and the beautiful scenery, you could simply sit and stare for hours.

However, once the crowds rush in, the square is filled with sightseers who wander about, eat and feed the famous pigeons. But don't be content to sit outside in the square. Take the time to explore some of the buildings.

Basilica di San Marco

Best viewed early in the day (before the lines become too exasperating), Basilica di San Marco, also known as St. Mark's Cathedral, is simply stunning. Those visiting via cruise ship are advised to book the earliest tour possible at your excursion desk. Cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, offer a variety of tours departing at different times.

The exterior alone is exceptional, but the interior is not to be missed. With over 39,000 feet of gold mosaics and artworks by Italian masters Titian and Bellini, this church is spectacular.

Gondola Tours

Of course, no trip to Venice is complete without a romantic gondola ride. Check with your tour guide or the excursion desk of your cruise ship for details. Royal Caribbean, among others, offers day and evening gondola rides. These narrow, hand-painted boats maneuver through the canals, giving you a private tour of Venice up close and personal. If you're lucky, you'll also have the pleasure of a serenade!

Carnival Masquerade Ball

After a day of sightseeing, you might choose a change of pace. Get dressed to the nines and participate in one of Venice's most celebrated events: Carnival! Held in mid-February each year, many cruise lines put on their own versions of Carnival. If you're visiting Venice in wintertime, get in on the real thing. The home like atmosphere of a bed and breakfast in the hills surrounding Florence will make you feel like you are one of the ex patriots.

The Tuscan country side is one of the limited regions that actually live up to the hype. Rolling hills that are green and filled with life year round make a backdrop that will make perfect photos for even an amateur photographer. The postcards and photos you have seen are not exaggerations, it really is that lovely.

Tuscany's soul can not be separated from it's stomach. Farming here is an art. And by the same families. Another short trip will take you to a world class restaurant nestled in the Florence hills. Back in the comfort of your bed and breakfast you can reminisce about the meal and the sparkling fireflies that lit the hills.

Vacation time spent in the heart of Tuscany will show you the depth of the Tuscan soul. Many Brits return year after year because it suits them for a variety of reasons. With so many repeat visitors to the island, it speaks well for the familiar sense of welcome and comfort that greets tourists year after year.

With its endless beaches and relaxed lifestyle, Malta is an ideal holiday destination. The largest of a group of seven islands off the coast of Italy in the Mediterranean, Malta is the essence of holiday pleasure.

It offers a luxurious retreat from your everyday hustle and bustle. If you're looking for an affordable vacation with satisfying accommodations and long lazy days on a sun drenched beach instead, Malta will definitely fulfill your expectations.

British tourists fly into Malta's modern Luqa international airport. With its emphasis on service and safety, visitors' first introduction to Maltese courtesy sets the tone for their holiday.

Equally welcoming is the stately arrival in the port of Valetta's Grand Harbour for those who prefer to combine a land and sea vacation. More than 250 cruise ships weigh anchor in Grand Harbour in the course of the year. But whether you arrive by air or sea, it's difficult to not feel the sense of excitement at the opportunity to discover all that Malta has to offer

The residents of the island always seem to put their best foot forward for their visitors, regardless of where they come from. But there does seem to be a special rapport between British tourists and residents of the island.

This has been particularly true since tourism dropped off this year because of the downturn in most world economies. Still, British tourists who have been visiting the island for years and years continue to return for their Malta holidays

While the native language is Maltese, almost all of the residents also speak English, the second language spoken throughout the islands.

Brits can also feel at home while driving about the island. Maltese rules of the road dictate that motorists drive on the left side, just as in Britain.

The list of things to do in Malta, besides just relaxing on the beach or by a pool, is extensive. If your ideal holiday includes exploring the cities with their stunning architectural delights, you won't be disappointed. The combination of Roman, Byzantine and Mediterranean influences have created an unforgettable city landscape. With a distinctive bus service that carries both tourists and locals throughout the city, you can get around easily without the bother of driving.

Malta is steeped in history, as one might expect on an island that has been inhabited for literally thousands of years. Beginning as far back as 100 B.C., the Romans ruled the island for about 600 years. They were followed by the Byzantine Empire and periodically by Muslim insurgents. All of these distinct cultures left their marks on the island.

The range of accommodation throughout the island, as well as in other favorite tourist destinations including Ibiza, Lanzarote, Corfu and Gran Canaria, is as varied as the desires of tourists. With four and five star hotels offering the best in luxurious comfort, and mid-range and economy hotels, tourists can certainly find a venue that suits their comfort zone. Then too, there are a number of villas throughout the island that are well sought after by repeat visitors looking for a more private vacation experience.

The Mediterranean island also offers a range of culinary experiences for tourists. Brits have no trouble finding restaurants whose menus offer selections that make diners feel like they are right at home. At the same time, available cuisine experiences are as varied as one would find anywhere. As with other dimensions of Maltese life, food reflects the influence of a variety of cultures, with something for every taste.

It's little wonder that British tourists continue to return to Malta for their holidays. It is home away from home, but with the luxury of not having to spend the best part of the day in the office. At the same time, there is the promise of extraordinary sights and sounds in a setting that is both familiar and exotic - home from home.

--
More information about Malta and her airport with cheap Malta flights is available via yourmalta.com

Other areas covered by the Malta guide includes the climate and a 5 day Malta weather forecast

Source: http://www.articletrader.com

Learing italian in Italy

Italian language classes help you speaking correct Italian

If you have always wanted to learn to speak Italian, and learn to speak it correctly, the best possible way is to take Italian language courses in Italy. Immersing oneself in a new language is key, as anyone who has spent time in a country where a different language is spoken is aware. Adults will get even more benefit out of studying Italian in Italy than children do because they need more repetition to pick up language skills. You will also get the benefit of having a cultural back drop to learn the language in.

When you have made plans to enroll in an Italian language school you get the benefit of certified instructors. Much in the same way that many native speakers of English do not have perfect grammar, the same holds true in Italian. When you have the benefit of the screening done by the Italian language schools in Florence, Milan, Rome and other large cities, you know you will not be learning the grammatical errors that are the English equivalent of confusing is and are.

The instructors in the Italian language courses will include plenty of idiomatic expressions. In addition to being constantly used, just as they are in English and all other languages you will enjoy seeing how many of them are closely related, such as "water under the bridge" being roughly the same as "passed water." Some of the expressions are unique to Italy and its history, such as "in the mouth of the wolf" equaling "break a leg." When you are able to use these naturally when you are speaking you will start to feel like an Italian in Italy, and not like a tourist.

The joys of the culture are another reason to take an Italian language course in Florence or any other food or art oriented city in Italy. The schools will virtually always have side excursions for nominal fees that expose you to some of the best aspects of Italian life. Food and wine lessons, cooking authentic dishes, traveling to local beaches and museums all are readily available. With the benefit of a bilingual guide and prearranged transportation

But, the biggest advantage of attending an Italian language school in Italy rather than in an English speaking country, is immersion. When your lessons are followed by a trip to the local bar for a caffè, you get to practice with the barista. At night you can take the menu in both English and Italian and learn more of the words for your favorite foods. A trip to the local soccer stadium for a game will teach you much more "colorful" language. Listening to both the radio and the TV will help your pronunciation and hone your listening skills.

Within a surprisingly short period your stay in Italy will have you reasonably fluent. Practicing your Italian language skills daily is easy. Italians are friendly and welcoming as a rule and taking the lessons you learned during the day and practicing in your local pub or restaurant every night will soon have you speaking with your hands and giving two cheek kisses when you greet your friends.

--
Tiziana Cardelli works as an instructor for http://www.europass.it , one of the most respected Italian language schools in Italy that offers group courses and private lessons, or a combination. The panoramic vistas of the mountains-stretching from Belluno and Trento and from the Adige River by the Val Pusteria (valley) east to west-make this one of the most charming ski areas in all of Italy. The area is so great for skiing because of all the zones you can have access to when skiing. The Val di Fassa skiing area incorporates the Fassa to Carezza ski areas. The lifts and slopes in all of these is part of the Dolomiti Superski Area.

The heritage remains intact; however, the Italian and German influences have been strong for decades and will remain the dominant language and culture for the future. For now, though, visitors can find plenty of history as far back as two hundred years ago. It's not impossible to walk or ski past some of the oldest architecture in northern Italy.

Val di Fassa and Carezza offer some serious skiing. If you combine the Tre Valli's ski and Carezza ski areas, the size goes up to nearly 10 km above Alba and over 30 km above Moena. If you buy the right ski pass, there are over 200 kilometers of skiing in and around Val di Fassa, though this becomes more sizable if you include other accessible ski resorts in the area. If you buy the Dolomoti Superski ticket, you'll have more skiing than can possibly be done in a week or two.

In order to access the 200-plus lifts in the Val di Fassa-Carezza ski zone, you'll have to ride all 60 lifts. When the snow refuses to fall, there are plenty of snow cannons heaving artificial snow on all the interlinked ski runs. The other valleys in the area, such as Arabba, Val Badia and Val Gardena, give easy access to the whole Sella Ronda circuit. In order to complete this ski circuit, you'll have to start from the villages of Canazei or Campitello. Though most of these slopes are less than 2,000 meters, you'll have plenty of fabricated snow making your ski holiday a blast no matter the weather.

The skiing in Val di Fassa and Carezza include all the normal black, blue, red and green runs. In Carezza ski resort alone, you can find minimum of 30 km of pistes. The highest lift drops you off at 2350 meters with the lowest at just 1200 meters. Even so, the max vertical in the Carezza ski zone is 1150 meters. Additionally, there are all sorts of ski tours in the area, not limited to the somewhat famous Four Passes Tour, the Trevalli Tour, The SkiTour Panorama and Great War Tour. It's humanly possible to ski from various villages on a different tour each and every day of a six-day ski pass and never see the same scenery twice.

The ski passes in the Val di Fassa and Carezza Italian ski area are not as imposing as one might think for Alp skiing. The season starts a bit later than others, with pre-season skiing usually ending on December 23rd. A six-day ski pass will cost one adult around €150 (€100 child). The high season commences on December 24th with prices going up about 20-30%. The high season prices begin at about €185 for an adult (€130 child) and end on January 6th. Normal season prices start again afterwards at €160 (€115 child) and end for another round of high season prices on the first of February; this high season ends mid-March with one more session of lower regular season prices. All these prices take into consideration that you will buy a six-day individual ski pass. (A full season ski pass will cost about €440 per adult and €150-€300 per child.)

The entire Val di Fassa ski area includes some great out-of-the-way ski and snowshoeing destinations. If, for example, you like cross-country skiing, it's very easy to get piste's maps upon your arrival to the Carezza ski resort. If you'd like to snowboard, there are plenty of places located throughout the ski region, though you may have to find ones in other nearby ski areas. Some runs have night skiing, using floodlights to light the slopes for 24-hour ski service. Additionally, the nightlife in the area includes all the favorite apres-ski venues, from bars to restaurants, pubs to clubs, health spas to discotheques, the chances of finding something on or off slope that you'll enjoy are guaranteed.

--
O.B.S. company is currently working on Val di Fassa skiing project. Sardinia holidays will let you experience nice, balmy, and fresh Mediterranean air, exotic beaches, amazing and cool archaeological places, and a great selection of hotels and flight packages that will fit all kinds of budget.

The nickname for Sardinia, the ‘Emerald Coast’, did little justice to the island’s pristine beaches which are popular tourist destinations among visitors of the island.

Cagliari is the capital of Sardinia and is also considered one of the island’s gateways. Here you will find the beach which is popular for its white sand and among sand castle builders, the attractive Poetto Beach. There are many archeological, historical, and world heritage sites in Cagliari. Sardinia holidays will let you soak in the place’s history and culture by bringing you back to a very old period in history by looking at the tombs made around the thirteenth century BC, walking along the Roman Amphitheater built from big slabs of rocks, and listening to music concerts in the cool, night breeze of summer.

Cagliari has a touch of Spanish. With its Pisan towers, Spanish castles, patios lined with flowers and azulejo-like ceramics display, it is not hard to imagine you are in Spain rather than Sardinia.

Beach bums love Sardinia because of its appealing, pristine beaches. You can go to expensive and luxurious Chia if you have the money. It has many sparkling beaches with white crystal-like sand along the shore and you can also enjoy an 18-hole golf course if you love playing golf. This place offers elegant, luxurious places to stay.

Another famous place for beachgoers in Sardinia is the Villasimius resort. It is located near a marine park and has many beautiful baches and charing almond groves. You can also visit Margherita di Pula for its great beaches and Alghero for its amazing Catalan-inspired architecture and shops where you can splurge your pocket money for souvenirs and other great finds.

Moreover, Sardinia holidays could mean visiting churches and cathedrals. These are other structures that you can find in Cagliari, specifically around Castello and the Marina neighborhoods. There are the Cathedral and churches such as the Purissima church which dates back from the 16th century, Santa Croce church, the Santa Maria del Sacro Monte di Pieta church, San Giuseppe church, the Gothic-Catalan-styled churches of San Sepulcro and Saint Eulalia, and the Baroque churches of Santa Rosalia and S. Antonio Abate. You can also find the old City Hall, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Palazzo del Vicere around this area.

If you are into visiting museums, you can enjoy the Citadella dei Musei or Citadel of Museums in English and also the National Archaeological Museum where you will be amazed by the different artefacts such as ceramics, statuettes, Roman sarcophagi, Punic jewelries, Phoenician tombs’ designs and decorations, and jewelry made from gold as old as the Medieval period. You can also visit Anatomical Wax Collection, National Art Gallery, and Siamese museum.

Stampace area is the place to be if you love archeological sites. The capital city of Italy is Rome and Italian is the official language spoken here.

Situated in the Mediterranean region, Italy has, for centuries, fascinated the world. Milan is known as the “fashion capital of the world’” and is where leading designers and models showcase their talent. Anyone who wants to be a part of the international fashion scene will spend at least some time in Italy.

Italy is legendary for its favorable climate throughout the year. Blessed with a geography that has a unique combination of hills as well as beaches, it is a vacationers’ paradise. The beautiful landscape of mountains, seas, lakes, ski resorts and vineyards captivates nature lovers. Italy is a land of surprising extremes. During the skiing season many offers are allowed by the skiing resorts to the visitors. Alpine skiing is a genre of entertaining skiing action which is also known as downhill skiing.
This type of skiing is played by sliding down the hills fully submerged by snow. Each of the feet has skis affixed to them. Alpine skiing was developed from the skiing of cross-country. It came into existence as the infrastructure of ski lifting came into existence. In this process getting back to the top of the hills became easy.
Otherwise the skiers had to climb back to the top and the enjoyment of repeated skiing down the slopes would not be possible. A great combo of the perfect infrastructure for the tourists, and snow filled mountain slopes are ideal for the alpine skiing.
These facilities are aptly available at the different European parts, Australia, the South American Andes, North America, New Zealand and parts of Eastern Asia.
In early days alpine skiing was not as famous as are these days. But with the passing of time more and more people are getting interested in the alpine skiing adventure sport and are choosing the sport as a great ski holidays as well.
Over 40 million skiers flock different resorts as the generous snowfall occurs in the mountains. It gives immense pleasure to enjoy the adventure and thrill. It is better to undergo proper training before indulging in the activity and proper protection must be taken to prevent one from danger.

About the Author
Mountvacation.com is main ski portal in Slovenia. Metaponto bring us testimonies of the stone age and the wreckage of Greek ancient, "Stones" of Matera, the castles of Federico II at the benedettine abbeys. Places where the time has stopped, where the traditions are founded on a warm welcome of the people.

Basilicata has one short coastline on the Tyrrhenian Sea and another of the Gulf of Taranto in the Ionian Sea to the south-east.

A family actually started the resort and was forward-thinkers in their own right. In fact, they had snow cannons and snow machines in the early 70s and 80s before other resorts even considered spending that kind of money to guarantee visitors snow. Almost forty years ago, Sestriere was making snow when not enough fell to guarantee visitors a good time.
If you're a skier looking for a ski-sure place this holiday season, look no further than Sestriere. The Via Lattea is actually a pass that links several other ski areas. The name itself means Milky Way and once you see the white glistening snow, you'll understand why the name makes perfect sense.
The Milky Way-or Via Lattea-Pass interlinks Sauze d"Oulx to Montgenevre (located just over in France) by way of Sansicario, Claviere and Cesana. The four ski areas (towns) that make up Sestriere are Sestriere Colle, Sestriere Borgata, Champlas du Col and Champlas Janvier. If you hit the slopes late enough in the season, you could have access to over 430 kilometers of skiing under one ski pass right out your back door. This guarantees powder-rich slopes and the Milky Way is always white and dusted with several meters of snow. Sestriere is in the Susa Valley within the world-renowned Piedmont of the Italian Alps, where you can literally see France in the horizon.
All levels of skiers will have no trouble finding snowy slopes.
Right near the resort itself, the hills just undulate oh so carefully, inviting beginners to try a ride or two. The nursery slopes beckon and don't scare away beginners and children skiers alike. Even if it only snows higher up, the nursery slopes are well covered with snow too with all the snow cannons. While little Johnny is practicing on the nursery slopes, you can take a ride down the Kandahar Slalom Giovanni Alberto Agnelli run as long as you're an expert.
If you're into the natural challenges of the mountains, you won't want to miss a run down Sestriere's slopes. In all, there are over 400 kilometers of runs and over 65 lifts with nearly 1000 snow guns. There are 58 km and 31 blue runs here, keeping the place uncrowned and moving. Additionally, the red runs cover 193 kilometers and number in the upper 90s. If you're an expert, you'll have around 70 km of ski runs with 32 official black slopes.
The tallest peak you'll have access to in Sestriere Italian ski resort is 2840 meters, with access to 1840 and 2035 meters. If you like human power rather than gravity, take a trail on the cross-country courses; there's over 8km of these awaiting your skis. In case you're wondering where to stay, here is an idea of what you can find and the altitude that each town is built at. To the east under Mt. Genevris, you'll find Sauze d'Oulx at 1509 meters-Oulx proper is just down the mountain from here. Sestriere ski resort lies at 2035 meters, under Mt. Rognosa and Mt. Sises. Grangesises lies at 1839 meters in the shadow of Roc del Boucher. Clavier, more to the west of the range, lies at 1760 meters and under Mt. Gilmont and Mt. Dormillouse. Just farther west and about 100 meters higher lies the town of Montgenevre, just south of Mt. Chenaillet.
These towns and ski resorts all have doorstep access to the slopes, so if you find a good price in accommodation in one over another, take it and know that you can easily get back and forth from one resort to another in no time.
The apres ski venue isn't too shabby if you'd like a night out alone or with your family. If you're a young partygoer, you'll have no trouble finding a party or two to keep you up into the wee hours of morning. When you're here, try looking for The Cavern, The Irish Igloo, The People Pub, and the Tabata disco. You can get more to eat than pizza here too. Try the El Giget, Du Grande Pere, Pinky or Zio Popy for good service and some good eats. These places have been given good reviews by local and foreign crowds so you won't be let down even if you pay a lot for some of the meals.

Information about the Author
O.B.S. company is currently working on Sestriere skiing project. Truth is in Italy's wine regions it's making has been raised to the level of an art form. An art that has been passed down from generation to generation and throughout many decades. Wine making thrives in Italy because it's climate allows for the growing of a large variety of grapes. More so than any other region in the world.

The majority of this production is done in the world famous region of Tuscany. Tuscany can be found right in the center of Italy. The famous fashion capital Milan is far to the north, near the borders of France and Switzerland, while Rome is a little to the south. Tuscany is a jewel set between the Tyrrhenian Sea on the west and the Apennines mountain range on the east. It consists of ten provinces, one of which is Pisa. A city famous for it's Leaning Tower. The capital city is Florence.

The wine history in Tuscany is just as historic as Italy's architecture and art. A history that extends as far back as the beginning of time.

Everybody has heard of the well-known wines such as Chianti from Tuscany, Valpolicella and Soave, but what about the marvelous Rondinella, Malvasia and Sangiovese? These are marvelous wines, and the little known Malvasia is superb. There are more different types of vine grown in Italy than any other country, and Italy can truly be awarded the accolade of wine growing country of the world. The French, Germans and all of the New World Australian and American wine producing areas pale into insignificance when compared to Italy. At least for volume.

This geography provides every type of climate possible for growing grapes, and the cold loving vines and those larger and juicier grapes that prefer more heat are all well catered for. It never gets too dry, and never gets too wet. Were you to personally design a country and climate ideal for growing just about every variety of grapes, you would end up with Italy.

About Author

Portuguese wine
Source: ArticleTrader.com

La spezia

It is a well known fact that to know a city inside out, a stroll on foot brings the most satisfaction. Our hurried lifestyle nowadays, can always have an improved quality by giving ourselves time to walk around a place, purely to enjoy the visual pleasures.

This goes for La Spezia too, it should be discovered without haste leaving from the jetty where the ferries are moored, called “Molo Italia”. Go through the exotic Public Gardens which are the pride of the city for their careful upkeep and flourishing flora. Then along Viale Diaz to the crossroad with Via Chiodo with its airy shaded arcades.
Straight across is Via Prione, a lively pedestrian street in the heart of the old town. The Civico Theatre designed by Franco Oliva comes up on your left symbolising the elegant thirties. A little way on where the street narrows, below the length of wall that dates back to the beginning
of the seventeenth century, what was once one of the entrances to La Spezia can be seen. This was in fact the entrance from the Naval Base to the walled city.

Tourism in Italy in 2007

Italy has been able to show a substantial growth of its tourist industry
tourist industry in 2007. Foreign visitors have spent 1.7% more in 2007 than the previous year. The number of arrivals has also increased by 4.7%. The forecasts for 2008 indicate a further increase of tourism in Italy and a season of stability, with peaks for the Garda Lake and the other Northern lakes, which are now on an equal level with the Venetian coast.

French tourist numbers in Italy have increased by 5%. The demand for country destinations prevails - farm holidays and luxury lodges in Tuscany, Piedmont and Emilia Romagna.

Substantial increase is signaled from the Iberian Peninsula where the increase of the sales averages 10%, with increased demand for fine cuisine and wine tourism, while they emerge as tourism transactions.

USA visitors are flowing to Florence, with projected increases of 10% for 2008. For the winter-Christmas period, the destinations of Center and South Italy will be privileged, with Rome, Florence, Naples and the Amalfi Coast in pole position.
Russian visitors' numbers have increased by 20%, especially with tour operators packages. Cultural tourism in great art cities, followed by alpine ski and thermal tourism are Russians' favorites.

The demands for information on Italy have increased also in Japan. The tour operators' catalogues show Italy as an established destination. Italy increases also on the Hungarian market: the Hungarians on tour will focus on cities of art, Sicily, Naples and outskirts.

Increase is also expected from the Czech Republic, with increments of around to 15-20%. An increase of travel services to Europe, around 25%, has taken place on the Chinese market in the course of 2007, but the important innovation in 2008 will be the fact that Italy will more often be a single destination, and Sicily as an often preferred option.

The Korean market, that is among the most dynamic in the world, records increases in outgoing tourism.

Travel agents and hundreds of tour operators, including companies from countries like China and India or the countries of the Persian Gulf, grant a great deal of interest to Italy, as they setup fairs and workshops that promote Italy on the foreign markets. Tourism in Italy is set to assert its great quality for all visitors and its role as a primary source of job supply, well-being and progress in Italy.

A La Carte Italy Tours offers private luxury tours in Italy. Roman municipality of the 49 b.C., reserves importan tracks of that prosperous period. The roman amphitheatre called the Arena, one of the most famous outdoor theatre in the world, the Roman Theatre, the Gavi Arch and the monumental gates (Porta Borsari and the Porta dei Leoni) are grand works designed to last millennia.
Noteworthy architectural works remain from the Scaliger's Seignory and from the Austrian domination during the Risorgimento, but there are also, palaces and squares of every epoch and style in warm soft colors.
The churches of the town are numberless and of great historical and artistic value. Some of the most important are: the Basilica of San Zeno, a perfect example of Romanesque architecture, is dedicated at the Saint Patron of the town and the panels of bronze that adorned the wooden doors, are a work of the local sculpture. The churches of San Fermo, Santi Apostoli and San Lorenzo date back to the same period while the church of Sant'Anastasia was built during the the Scaligers' Seignory and is the home of fresco masterpeces by Pisanello and Altichiero. The church of San Giorgio is attributed to Sanmicheli, an architect who worked at several of the most important palaces and fortresses of the city.
A small marble balcony records the most famous verses of Shakespeare tragedy, in which Romeo declares his love fo Juliet, Shakespeare's immortal heroine, as she stands on it. The building, which probably dates back to the XIII century, has a brick facade and large tribolate windows; following the tradition it is the house where the beautiful Juliet lived. Her tomb is located instead in an old monastery and the place is imbued with an intensely romantic atmosphere.
The other eternal symbol of Verona is the Arena: the magnificence of the roman ruins, the perfection of the staging and the musical shows give to the performances of the Arena that inimitable tone which since 1913 has been attracting big crowds of spectators to one of the most prestigious opera seasons. Every year the rich program includes works, concerts and ballets. Verona offers also many folklore events between which the "Bacanal del Gnoco", the veronese carnival, arrived at the 475^ edition.
The territory of the Scaligera province is embraced from north-west at south-east by the Adige river: about ten of bridges connects the two parts of the town, but in the roman period Verona had only two bridges: the Pons Postumius (doing not more exist), and the Pons Marmoreus. This last, known like Ponte Pietra, destroyed during the Second World War, was rebuilt using the original parts; suggestive also the Ponte Scaligero, in the neighbourhood of Castelvecchio, also it, like the previous, exclusively to pedestrian use, was built and fortified during the Seignory of Della Scala for civic and military purposes.
The territory around of Verona is rich of story: there is not in fact one veronese town which cannot boast at least one stately residence or a medieval castle or the memory of some important past events. Soave, Villafranca, Cologna Venetam Valeggio sul Mincio, are some of the most significant examples of this heritage,
Around at those and other centres are extended the fertile veronese plain, in the South part called also "Basso Veronese", rich of products of the agriculture, of handicrafting tradition and important firms. Its delicate and poetic landscape should not be overlooked, especially during autumn.
The chain of the Mount Baldo erises at north-ovest in comparison with the town and, in the last centuries was called, from botanists and naturalists "Hortus Europae" for the extraordinary variety of flora species, more of which endemic. Appeared on the lake of Garda like a incomparably beautiful balcony, the mountain can be easily reached also with the new cableway that covers the route between Malcesine and the Mount Baldo with a inequality of 1650 metres, in only 10 minuts.
The north-east zone of the territory is occupied from the Natural Park of the Lessinia, built of recent, in the 1990, that exploits the naturalistic-surrounding importance of this plateau which has witnessed in the XIII century the settlement of Bavarian-Tirolose speaking Cimbric communities and has developed important summer and winter tourism. Some of its most interesting attractions are the Fossil Remains Museum in Bolca which is dedicated to precious fossiled fish of tropical climate, found in the "Pesciara", a fossiliferous deposit of the Tertiary Era and considered, in its kind, between the most important in the world; the Ponte of Veja, a big rocky arch recognized like natural monument; the Molina Falls park which contains marvelous waterfalls and tiny green lakes, nature trails. Moreover the plateau offers, possibility of strolls, excursions, mountain bike, trekking, freeflying, horse-riding and during the winter season it becomes a big ski area.
The north-west boundarys of the provincial territory is delimeted from the shores of the lake of Garda: that its light and colors combines the fascination of the mediterranean landscape with the atmosphere of nordic fiords. The east shore, known like Riviera degli Ulivi, offers culture, story and traditions, like testify, the romanesque churches, scaliger castles, residences in the venetian style and nineteenth-century fortifications which stand on its sides or in the surroundings; it is the ideal place for the sojourn of people fond of sport and active holidays, perfect to practise, sailing, canoening, wind-surf, fishing and immersions, but also so much cheerfulness with the fun-fairs, natural parks and fields from golf.
After the sport the rich gastronomy offers the better of an area where the alpine environment is softened thanks at the mediterranean influence: the wines and the extravirgin oil are, with the freshwater fish, the principal products of the gardesana zone. Verona then has always had a great tradition for good food, in the hands of the restaurant owners and inn-keepers of the city and the province. Some of the typical dishes: the gnocchi (potato dumplings), pasta e fagioli (pasta and beans soup), the "papardele coi fegadini", the boiled beef with "pearà", the "pastrissada de caval" and the pandoro cake. Also the nearby towns offer variety of dishes such as the risotto from Isola della Scala (risottos with meat, grana cheese, aromatized with rosemary and cinnamon), the tortellini of Valeggio, the asparagus of Arcole , the cheese of Villafranca; all these dishes are accompanied with delicious wines, the most famous of which are the Valpolicella, the Amarone and the Recioto, the Bianco di Custoza, the Soave and the Recioto di Soave, the Arcole and the Lessini Durello.

Abruzzo

Region is known for the marine localities and the three large National Parks: in Abruzzo almost one third of the total surface is natural reserve. Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Located in the heart of Tuscany, a stunning province of hills and mountains, the Renaissance capital of the world, with famous sons like Leonardo, Dante, Machiavelli and Michelangelo, is a sight not to be missed. The world famous Duomo with the Brunelleschi cupola and the marble clad baptistry are simply stupendous, but not all the monuments are like this. The streets of the historic town centre are often narrow and dark, the palaces robust and intimidating. But have a look at the squares - wonderful Mediterranean places where you will like spending hours sitting down, having a coffee and just watching people passing by.

However, Florence is a city of incomparable pleasure concerning churches, monasteries, museums, galleries and palaces. Among the things you can't afford to miss are the Uffizi Galleries, one of the best art museums in the world, the cathedral with the baptistry, the Santo Spirito church and the Ponte Vecchio. To get a great overview of the city, head for Piazzale Michelangelo in Oltrarno (other side of river Arno) or farther up to the church of San Miniato.

Florence

When you imagine Italy, it is really Florence Italy that you are seeing. That is because Florence is at the heart of Italy. It is a place filled with passions and indulgences that awaken all the senses. Visual masterpieces are there to behold and one almost begins to salivate at the thought of the Florentine cuisine. To make the most of your visit to Florence, you can learn a little here about where to stay, what to do, and what you can expect from the locals.

A Warm Welcome

The first thing you expect from your visit to Florence is a warm and hearty welcome. The local people are lovers of people and are not afraid to show it. It is not uncommon to be greeted at your villa by a someone’s “Nona” (grandmother) with a big hug and a hot plate of food – no matter what the time is when you arrive.

Next your accommodation at any price level will be clean and pristine. The linens and furnishing may not be the most luxurious in the lower costing rentals, but they will be freshly washed and painstakingly starched. It’s just the Italian way to keep their homes extremely clean and they offer no less to their guests.

Some Choices on Where to Stay

There are some popular favourites within the city limits of Florence. The Savoy hotel, Florence, Italy is one of those. Here you will find five star accommodations within walking distance of two of Florence’s most popular attractions – the Uffizi Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio.

Another Florence hotel popular among tourists is the Westin Excelsior. It is also located close to the most visited and historic attractions and offers rooms and services American’s are most comfortable with. In addition to these highest rated hotels, visitors will be comfortable at such centrally located lodgings as the Hotel Rivoli or Palazzo Galletti.

For extended stays in Florence you may want to look into apartment or villa rentals. Apartments can be found within the city limits, while most villas are about 20-30 km outside the city. For travel to wine country and then back to the city, Florence car rental offices can accommodate your needs.

Apartments in Florence Italy are generally small, but efficient. You will find a small kitchen is the norm, but they provide enough space to cook simple meals. For a short term rental, they are more than adequate and provide a good home base for exploring the entire Tuscany region.

Downtown Florence Italy is one of the most historically significant cities in Italy. Here tourists come to take in the Uffizi Gallery, the Ponte Vecchio Bridge crossing the River Arno, and the St. Croce Chuch. In addition, there is the Duomo, the city’s Exhibition and Congress Centre. No visit to Florence Italy would be complete without feeding the pigeons at Boboli gardens or walking down the garden’s avenue lined with cypress trees dating back to the 1600s.

Florence is a city that needs more than a weekend to see it all. Plan on visiting during the most pleasant season between April and June and make sure you give yourself at least a week to enjoy the city and surrounding countryside.
By: Peter J. This was initiated by the Pope in 1994 when he called for a Special Consistory to prepare for the Great Jubilee at the starting point of the third millennium involving the Catholic world as a whole.
Meier’s project is the 50th church to be inaugurated in the Vatican’s Millennium Project. Each church has a community centre and they are built in various parish districts throughout Rome.
The Jubilee Church commission was the result of an international competition, and the Vatican’s shortlist included Meier, Gehry, Behnisch, Calatrava, Eisenman and Ando.
The award of the project to Meier was controversial from the outset, in that Meier as a Jew would be working with the foremost Catholic client – the Vatican itself. However, the relationship and the resultant complex are a triumph of this collaboration, and entirely successful in architecture of outstanding optimism.
The church, named Dio Padre Misericordioso (God our Merciful Father) by Pope John Paul II, was consecrated and inaugurated on 26 October 2003 by Cardinal Camillo Ruini in a four-hour service of celebration, music and ritual. This was attended by a huge congregation both within the church itself and externally on the church piazza.
The church is in an ordinary 1970s 10-storey housing quarter at Tor Tre Teste, a suburb at some distance from the centre of the city. Taken together, church and community centre form a spectacular new focus in an otherwise low-key suburban environment, and define both a religious precinct and a heartening sense of place.
Meier has said that ‘… expression of aspiration, hope and belief, as well as openness and transparency are all aspects of the ideas behind the design of this church’. It is a wonderful gift to the whole community of more than 25 000 people.
The fan-shaped site is approached directly from the east across a travertine paved entrance piazza (sagrato), which extends as a base to the church on the south and west of the precinct. The entrance is marked by several external features including a silver cross, and a campanile with exposed bells – the tower marking out both the church to the south and the community centre to the north. The generous entrance hall, defined by a travertine screen wall, is partly enclosed within by a raised organ loft. Once in the nave, the main altar is immediately visible at
the west end. Although unconventional, this position is a logical result of the frontal eastern entrance. Plan-form and section are extremely clear. Three circles of equal radius create three
concrete shells to the south and together with a thick spine wall to the north, the main space of the church nave is contained. In a contrasting, plain L plan around a sunken courtyard, is the community centre, on four levels. The centre is separated from the main church by a linear top-lit atrium.
The plan of the church is essentially traditional with nave, altar, side chapel and confessional booths. Introduction of the three shells transforms the project and implies the Holy Trinity. Natural light is the major theme, with skylights between each shell and over the main space, creating ever changing patterns within. Meier has referred to this as ‘… a luminous spatial experience … the rays of sunlight serve as a mystic metaphor of the presence of God’.

Pisa

The 14th-century Romanesque Leaning Tower is of course Pisa’s main attraction (it has 294 stairs) and really seems to overturn any moment. The tower reopened in November 2001, and as of October 2003 tickets to climb the tower were 15 Euros. A fortification project has made some progress in stopping the increase in inclination and even managed to pull the tower back a bit (40 centimetres). The Leaning Tower belongs to an ensemble of four impressive buildings all located on "Campo dei Miracoli" (square of miracles): the cathedral Santa Maria Assunta, the campanile (leaning tower that was actually a bell tower), the baptistry (looks like a huge "baci" chocolate, that is a delicious Italian candy) and the Camposanto cemetery.
Should time permit stop at Palazzo dei Cavalieri, walk down Via Santa Maria towards the river banks of Arno, where the small Gothic chapel of "Santa Maria della Spina" is located and the National Museum of San Matteo (excellent collection of 12th-through 15th-century art).

We also suggest taking a taxi/bus or bicycle ride to the Church of "San Michele degli Scalzi" to see the other leaning tower of Pisa; completed in the 13th century this seldom-visited tower is worth a look even though it’s not as impressive as the famous one.

It’s also fun just to walk around Pisa (pop. 104 000). The city is very compact with many narrow streets, small markets, hidden treasures and a great ambience; we suggest seeing it on a day trip from Florence perhaps in combination with Lucca just 13 mi/20 km northeast. Another possible stop is Pistoia which has a cathedral and baptistery in the Pisan-Romanesque style and the Ceppo Hospital (L’Ospedale de Ceppo) which has a brightly painted terra-cotta frieze.

Thanks for the guide in English to world66. In square of the Cathedral dedicated at San Vigilio and delimited from the other sides from walls of Pretorio Palace with the Tower and the Castelletto, primitive invigorated episcopal residence and Balduini Palace, can be admired the eighteenth-century Fontana del Nettuno work of Francesco Antonio Giongo.
The historic centre made precious from a pedestrian block that fills Pasi square, Oss Mazzurana road (seat of the Teatro Sociale), San Pietro road and largo Giosuè Carducci, animated square and well-known place of meeting.
The provincial territory of Trento fills the southern portion of the region and offers at the tourist a variegated landscape that soars from mild hills, at small lakes set between imposing peaks: from the northern offshoots of the Lake of Garda, true paradise for surfisti and the passionates of sail at the valleys to scour also in winter with rackets at the foots for unforgettable trips at contact with a pure nature (Val di Non, Val di Sole, Valsugana) and from which start modern installations of climb that allow to ski over a immense circuit (Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo, Altopiano della Paganella, Val di Fassa, Altipiani di Folgaria, Lavarone and Luserna). Its final performances coincide with Festive Vigiliane, a
medieval pageant for which townspeople turn up in the Piazza del Duomo
appropriately decked out. Call the tourist office (& 0461-839-000) for performance
dates.
An ambitious program aptly named Superfestival stages musical performances,
historic dramas, and reenactments of medieval and Renaissance legends
in castles surrounding Trent; it runs from late June through September.
A small daily food market covers the paving stones of Piazza Alessandro Vittorio
every day from 8am to 1pm. I like very much the "città alta" (high city) that is the ancient and interesting part of the city.
To get in "città alta " is not a good idea to use the car because usually it's difficult to park; it's better to take the "funiculare" and walk.
If you plan to visit the north of I taly I sugest to spend a day in Bergamo. you could stay in the daytime in the low part of the city, visiting and shopping, and than go to città alta for dinner.
Nighttime sight from the walls of città alta is a really mustsee!

welcome to my blog!

I finally did it!
usually I am too lazy to post something in English. Perhaps I am the too much typical italian, I like to speak but I am too lazy to write something, even in my language.
Now I found bolgspot and I discovered the power of this site and this software. My idea is to show you something about italy without any commercial goal.
I am italian, I live in Italy and I work with internet and tourism to live but (and this is a very important but) I don't have an hotel, I don't a website for hotel reservations, I am not interested in the web booking system of any kind. I am just interested in toourism, I love my country and I think I can give some usefull information here and some nice picture (that's easy for me since I am here). That's all.
Now I'll play a bit with the blog settings, I promise I'll start serious posting as soon as possible (next week, it's a promise!)
